Dayton VA Medical Center, Ohio

The Dayton VA Medical Center has four clinics that assess the Veterans for various transplant needs:

  1. The GI (Gastro-Intestinal) Clinic for Liver Transplants,
  2. The Renal Clinic for Kidney Transplants,
  3. The Hematology/Oncology Clinic for Bone Marrow/Stem Cell transplants and
  4. The Pulmonary Clinic for Lung transplants.

The designated physician for each clinic makes the decision on what specific consults that are to be sent to the various services for the pre-transplant assessments, such as The Health Psychology Consult, Dental Consult and Social Work Consult. Once the initial consult is received, the clinician then schedules the Veteran for the assessment. Once the Veteran is assessed, the data is summarized, reviewed and sent to The National Transplant Center in Washington, D.C. The National Transplant Center makes the decision as to where the Veteran will be sent for the Transplant procedure. There are three locations for the procedure: Nashville, TN, San Antonio, TX, and Seatle, Washington. The referring physician will follow up.
