Print Version (PDF)

What: The Dayton VA will host a “National Night Out” event on August 2nd at 5 PM in the parking lot behind the childcare center (building 401).  National Night Out is an annual event for members of the public to get to know their local law enforcement officials.

This event will highlight the successful partnership between the Dayton VA Police, local law enforcement, and our Veterans and staff.  Successes include:

*  Creation of the first Neighborhood Watch program in the VA
*  “Are you OK?” program – VA police check in daily with elderly and handicapped residents who live alone and need extra assistance.
*  “Citizens Academy” – VA police introduce Veterans and staff to the tools and techniques the Dayton VA Police use to keep us all safe.
*  Recent week-long “active threat” training exercise, first of it’s kind for the VA – Used the Dayton VA state-of-the-art simulation center to place officers in a real medical environment to respond to an active threat situation.
This event is open to the public and media.
