Dayton Resident Named Male Volunteer of the Year by National Committee
What: Dayton, OH - The National Advisory Committee (NAC) has named Dayton resident Jim Fortune as the Male Volunteer of the Year. Each year NAC selects one male and one female Veterans Affairs volunteer nationwide.
Fortune has volunteered in all of the departments within the VA providing services such as helping Veterans move, raising funds through Veteran Service Offices and providing monetary assistance for Veterans who need help paying for their utilities. He is also an electric engineer and repairs motorized scooters and wheelchairs for Veterans. Fortune also serves as the CEO of the Dayton National Cemetery Support Committee.
I am very honored to receive this award," said Jim Fortune. "I will receive it with great humility knowing that my volunteer efforts have helped so many Veterans in need." Fortune is originally from Dayton and is an Army Veteran who served in Vietnam from1968 to 1969. He was elected into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame in 2012. Jim has volunteered at the Dayton VA Medical Center (VAMC) for a total of 25,337 hours over the past eight years.
The National Advisory Committee advises the Under Secretary for Health on matters pertaining to the volunteers in VA medical facilities.
