Dayton VA Medical Center Promotes New Chief of Primary Care

Dayton VA host an open house for Veterans
What: The Dayton VA Medical Center is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Edward “Ed” P. Syron to Chief of Primary Care Services at the Dayton VA Medical Center. The promotion will be effective October 1, 2017.
Dr. Syron joined the Dayton VAMC in October of 2014 as the Chief of Non-VA Care Coordination, where he and his staff were tasked with managing and coordinating the care provided to Veterans in the community before being named Group Practice Manager in March of 2016, where he was responsible to help ensure timely, efficient and high quality outpatient care. Prior to joining the Dayton VAMC, Dr. Syron served as Director of Cardiovascular Services and Quality Innovation at Miami Valley Hospital from 2009 to 2014 and as the Director of Cardiovascular Services and Quality Improvement at Grandview/Southview Medical Center from 2005 to 2009.
Dr. Syron is a retired US Air Force Medical Service Corps officer, serving from March, 1972 to December, 1992. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued working as a senior healthcare executive in both operations and quality in several tertiary care hospitals and for two national health plans – Blue Cross and Humana.
Dr. Syron is board certified in healthcare executive leadership as a Fellow of the American College Healthcare Executives (FACHE), in quality as a Fellow of the National Association of Healthcare Quality (FNAHQ), and as a Certified Behavioral Heathcare Executive (CBHE). Dr. Syron also serves as an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Population & Public Health WSU Boonshoft School of Medicine. He is a course director for both spring and fall semesters; sits on the curriculum development committee and is a member of the Physician Leadership Development Program Advisory Board.
Dr. Syron obtained his graduate degree in healthcare administration from Washington University School of Medicine (St. Louis, MO) and his doctoral degree in Human Development/Health Education Promotion from Marywood University – Scranton, PA. Dr. Syron has been on the Board of the local Chapter of the American Heart Association for 12 years serving in a series of officer roles for 9 years, including Chairperson. He is an active member of the local American College of Healthcare Executives’ (ACHE) Chapter for southwest Ohio – ACHE of Greater Ohio.
