1. Gate Lodge

Gate Lodge and Soldiers Welcome to the virtual tour of the Central Branch, National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. Your tour is set to June 30, 1885. Sit back and relax as America's Civil War Veterans greet you. Two old soldiers at our Gate Lodge gracefully salute you. Their actions indicate a sincere welcome to their beautiful home. Competent guides are designated with badges, and one of the guides will accompany you to impart information on the tour. On this day, we have 4,149 veterans present at the Central Branch. This is more than the number of veterans present at all of the other Branches combined! There has not been a vacant bed at the Central Branch since June 14, 1885. During the past 12 months, 6,884 veterans have received their care here.
